Description

Join Francis Spufford, author of Golden Hill, Light Perpetual and Cahokia Jazz for an evening where he’ll be discussing his new book, Nonesuch.

“My god he can write” said Richard Osman of Spufford’s work – and in particular Golden Hill, which Osman described as “the book of the century”. Frances Spufford had published several works on non-fiction before his debut fiction work and with each subsequent book we’ve been astounded by his relentless imagination and his spectacular ability to weave a story in ever surprising ways.

In Nonesuch we’re taken on a fantasty into Blitz-era London, where we find our protagonist, Iris Hawkins, working in the City. When she meets Geoff, who’s working in the BBC’s television unit and things become a little less like the war-era London we’re used to.

THE PUBLISHER SAYS:

What was supposed to be one night of abandon draws her instead into an adventure of otherworldly pursuit – into a reality where time bends, spirits can be summoned, and history hangs by a thread. Soon there are Nazi planes overhead. But Iris has more to contend with than the terrors of the Blitz. Over the rooftops of burning London, in the twisted passages between past and present, a fascist fanatic is travelling with a gun in her hand.

And only Iris can stop her from altering the course of history forever.

We’re delighted that Francis will be joining us for this event – and are pleased to announce that we’ll be hosting this in the very atmospheric surrounds of Wymondham Abbey, where our friends there will be on hand to serve refreshments.
