Description
We’ve got a treat for you here, Oak Folk fans.
Kett’s Books is delighted to announce that Jackie Oates will be coming to the bookshop for a special gig on May 14th 2026.
Winner of two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and treasure of English contemporary folk, Jackie is a singer, fiddler and songwriter well known and loved for her exquisite, pure vocals and expressive fiddle style.
Jackie’s heartfelt and beautiful live performances enthral and inspire audiences. Highly skilled at breathing new life into the traditional gems she unearths, Jackie’s affecting music includes folk songs and tunes as well as her own songs that so eloquently get to the very heart of human experiences.
One of folk’s brightest talents….Her lovely take on The Longpigs’ On and On should get the John Lewis Xmas ad team on the phone pronto – The Guardian
She loves to throw in the occasional unexpected cover; for example her lovely take on The Longpigs’ ‘On and On’ was an album highlight with The Guardian reviewer, and her version of The Cure’s Untitled was played on Iggy Pop’s Confidential Show on BBC Radio 6.
Jackie’s 8th solo album, Gracious Wings, received glowing reviews in publications such as The Guardian, Songlines, Get Ready To Rock and Northern Skies as well as widespread acclaim throughout the folk press.
Oak Folk fans will recognise some familiar names in the long and impressive list of musicians she’s collaborated with: Jon Wilks, Nick Hart, John Spiers – and with Martin & Eliza Carthy as part of the incredible Imagined Village collective. The list will undoubtedly continue to grow.
The soaring purity of Oates’ vocals washes through the songs leaving them like clean streets after a bout of rain – The Arts Desk
