Terms of all Friends schemes
As a Friend of Kett’s Books, you are entitled to a 10% discount on books, bookmarks, greetings cards, and other items.
The Friends discount does not apply to book tokens, second-hand books, specialist titles, or the cost of delivery. We may occasionally have to exclude other items. If we can give you the discount, we will.
We will occasionally invite you to socials, offer additional discount, and extend benefits to you as we can.
The 20% Friends pre-order offer will return 1 July 2024, and those discounts are good for the calendar month.
Your spouse or life partner can use the card, but please respect the spirit of the scheme and do not share it with your adult friends or relatives. You may buy gifts and books for your own children using the discount.
Ordinary Friends cards are good for ‘a year and a bit,’ and then must be renewed for the discount and benefits to continue.
Terms of Lifetime Friends scheme
All the usual terms of the Friends scheme apply to the Lifetime Friends, with a few more notes.
Your usual 10% discount will apply to all the usual items that the Friends discount already applies to. Use of the card will not expire until the end of your life.
The minimum donation is £250 in one go, or a £20/month standing order. If you sign up by standing order, you must continue payments for a minimum of 13 continuous months to continue as a Lifetime Friend.
If you’ve just signed up for an ordinary Friends card in the previous 30 days, we will apply this to the cost of your Lifetime Friend card, and reduce the price by £20.
The discount will apply for only your lifetime. You cannot pass it on as part of your estate.
There is no maximum, but if you want to give more than £5000, we will have to have a private conversation to keep our anti-money-laundering solicitor happy.
We’re creating the scheme to ensure the future of Kett’s Books – but if disaster strikes and the shop has to close, we won’t be able to give you your money back.
If a professional advised that the scheme turned out to be causing financial harm to Kett’s Books, we reserve the right to withdraw the offer. We cannot imagine a scenario in which that would be the case, but it feels sensible to say.
We really want to stay friends. But just to protect ourselves, we will point out that we expect all our Friends to continue to live by the values and principles that made us friends in the first place. We reserve the right to cancel your Friends card without refund. But given that you care enough to be a Lifetime Friend, we don’t expect that would ever happen. If it did, we would write to you to explain why.
