Email us to talk about schools: outreach[at]kettsbooks.co.uk
You know about reading and learning. We know about books. And we all want Wymondham and South Norfolk to be a place where our children and families read for fun. We believe this could be the start of a wonderful partnership.
Books
Every month we meet with account managers representing a total of 60 different publishers. We know about far more books than we’re able to keep in stock – so whatever you want your children to explore, we can help you to find it – even to discover what you didn’t even know you wanted.
And we can bring it to life by making the books part of our families’ lives. For instance…
Book fairs
We want all children to have experience of selecting their very own book that’s theirs, so we offer three types of book fairs.
- ‘School trip’ book fair: With a half-day of booky fun, with a book fair where everyone gets a book and a goody bag.
- ‘Regular’ book fair: We bring a large selection of high-quality books, and the school gets 10% back as a credit voucher.
- ‘World Book Day’ book fair. We bring books for a book fair, with enough WBD books for up to 25% of the register.
World Book Day
We bet you didn’t know this: Bookshops buy the books that children exchange their voucher for on World Book Day – and we don’t get that money back.
We want as much as you do to make sure every child has opportunity to own their own book, so we’re willing to try doing it differently.
If you’d like to buy the books at cost through us, we’re willing to get them for you and invoice you. The books cost us £5 per 50 books (packs of 50). This means you could supply an entire school of 300 pupils with WBD books for only £30.
Sound good? For World Book Day 2024, orders must be in by 20 October. Orders received after this date may not be fulfilled. Email outreach@kettsbooks.co.uk to go on a waiting list.
Bookshop Takeover
Too good to be true? A fundraiser with real-life work skills and a cross-curricular experience?!
We would like to invite your school to ‘take over’ Kett’s Books.
For two hours in the evening, the children you choose will run the bookshop for a private shopping session for the families you invite (with our supervision.)
The school will receive 20% of all money taken, as shop credit. There is a minimum £400 spend to make this happen – we calculate that’s about 33 families attending and buying books. Your school gets some money, and you get to introduce more families to books – and everyone gets a goody bag. There’s so much to love!
Author events
Our access to publishers means we’re able to choose carefully the authors we
work with. The feedback is always that the children and teachers find our
author events valuable.
We know that some schools have budget to pay authors’ fees, and some
schools don’t. We’d like to have a grown-up conversation about that, so we
can help bring authors to schools that lack this opportunity. And if your school
is able to pay for visits, we’d like to be involved in providing the books for that
visit, or even in helping you select authors.
Keep an eye on our mailing list for news of upcoming events and other opportunities to collaborate!
Book boxes
Want to keep up with the latest publications? We have two options that may help.
- Sample boxes. We can prepare a sample box of books on any topic for your
teachers to review for a two-week period, for a minimum £150 order. You can
leave the books in the staff room, then return the books you don’t want, and
we’ll invoice you for the rest! - Subscription boxes. So many new books come out every year! For £75 we can send your school a box of ten books to keep – often with freebies too! – full of books that you might not know about yet.
We can create this around any topic, and if you like we can visit and talk the children through why these are great reads. Available monthly or termly.
Your school in our shop
We love to welcome children to the bookshop! We can give children a behind-the-scenes tour, we have an events room upstairs where we can do a talk (or not), and we can offer each child a goody bag as they leave. £100 minimum spend from school.
Finance and pricing
All schools always get a minimum of 10% off all book orders. (A few
specialist books are excluded).
If we can take a little longer to get your books in, we can increase this to
15%.
The discount rate may improve slightly if there is a large volume or if we
have a long time scale to source the books.
Unfortunately we’re not able to apply the discount to specialist, academic,
niche or out of print books.
If you are requesting a large number of books, providing the ISBNs is a great help!
Open House for Educators
On the first Friday evening of October every year we will hold an Open House for Educators, in which we have a glass of wine together, talk about new books you might not know about, discuss how we can work together, and introduce the World Book Day books for the following year. Teachers leave with a goody bag and great ideas. Booking is essential.
If there is demand we could consider holding an additional Open House for Educators in April, to make plans for the autumn term.
Keep in touch
We’d love to keep in touch, and we send an occasional email to our educators, with freebies, offers of author events, introduction to new books, and more. You can unsubscribe at any time. Email us on outreach[at]kettsbooks.co.uk to sign up, or for any other conversation. We look forward to hearing from you!
