Description
Sandra’s latest book, Literary Gardens, is an exploration of the imagined gardens of poets and writers. From The Secret Garden and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to Rebecca and The Great Gatsby, these fictional gardens capture the atmosphere and emotion of the stories they belong to. Some feel peaceful or nostalgic, others are rich with mystery or unspoken tension – each is shaped by the characters and moments that are revealed within them. This follows her enchanting book looking at Lost Gardens of the World.
Sandra is a passionate researcher of all things gardens and indeed it was one of our volunteer’s chance encounter with Sandra’s 2023 book ‘Miss Willmott’s Ghosts’, a biography of horticulture’s ‘bad girl’, Ellen Willmott, which set our interest alight – and sought her out to visit us for an author talk!
Sandra’s other works explore the role of plants, trees and fungi in folk and popular culture – and we’ll be sure to ask her about all of the above over the course of the evening. A perfect author talk for the summer season, especially for gardeners!
